Configuring Settings in Android
1.Access App Settings:
- Open OpenVPN Connect.
- Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner.
- Select Settings.
2.Enable Reconnect on Boot:
- Scroll to the Connection Settings section.
- Toggle Launch on Boot or Connect on Device Startup to ON.
- Select your preferred default profile to load when the device turns on.
3.Configure Seamless Tunnel & Battery Rules:
- Enable Seamless Tunnel to keep the VPN interface active during pause or network handover events.
- Under Battery Saver, select Continuously Active if Android’s background process manager terminates your connection unexpectedly.
Configuring Settings in iOS
Due to iOS sandbox restrictions, background startup behaviors rely on system-level integration rather than persistent background daemons.
1.Access OpenVPN Connect Settings:
- Open OpenVPN Connect.
- Tap the menu icon in the top-left corner and choose Settings.
2.Enable Connection Launch Defaults:
- Locate Seamless Tunnel and toggle it ON to prevent traffic leaks during network changes.
- Toggle Connection Timeout to Continuously Retry if you need the client to attempt connection recovery indefinitely.
3.Configure On-Demand via iOS System Settings:
- Open the native iOS Settings app.
- Go to General > VPN & Device Management > VPN.
- Tap the (i) icon next to your OpenVPN profile.
- Toggle Connect On Demand to ON so iOS automatically launches the VPN tunnel whenever network activity is detected.
Direct Launch via Custom URL Schemes
Both Android and iOS support deep linking to launch the OpenVPN app or trigger connection profiles programmatically via custom URI schemes:
| Action | URI Scheme |
| Open App | openvpn:// |
| Connect Specific Profile | openvpn://connect/<profile_name> |
| Import Config via URL | openvpn://import?url=<http_encoded_url> |
